Why Malware Analysis?

Did you know that more than 1 billion malware programs are out there and 560,000 new pieces of malware are detected everyday? Do we have enough professionals and technology to deal with this rising number of malwares in our cyberspace?

Just a quick overview malware is malicious software that has the intention of stealing information, spying on someone or causing damage to one’s system.

Let’s start with one of the most common types of malware.

The Worm is known to have existed in the early days of computing devices. Worm replicates themselves just like the evolution of computing devices. Malware authors also cope with this trend later, it developed a stealthy capability to mutate itself by using the technique Polymorphism to bypass security products and turn itself into another variant of Worm but belonging to the same malware family.

See the chart below.

What can this data tell us?

Malware will outnumber everything in the next few years, including the number of professionals working on the detection side, technology capable of detecting real-time variants of malware, and the skill set required by people to protect their own organization.
